The most optimal unit for drying beet pulp is a drum-type dryer. Our company has the ability to design and produce any drying drum with a capacity in the range from 0.5 tons per hour to 5 tons per hour for a dry product according to the customer’s technical specifications. If higher productivity is needed, our company is ready to offer modular complexes for drying beet pulp with a capacity of 10 tons per hour to 30 tons per hour.
Beet pulp (sugar beet pulp) is formed as a waste product from sugar factories, after sugar is extracted. Usually it has a very high humidity of 85-90% at the outlet. And then it must go through the stage of moisture removal using mechanical extraction. The best indicators for today are humidity 72-73%, and it is not possible to achieve lower levels on modern equipment due to the properties of sugar beets. Therefore, the minimum possible moisture content of sugar beet pulp before serving in the dryer is 72-73%.
A drying drum for drying beet pulp should be aggregated with a heat generator operating either on gaseous fuel (natural gas, propane-butane mixture), or on liquid (diesel fuel, fuel oil, various synthetic boiler / furnace fuels, coal water), or solid ( wood fire chambers, coal fire chambers, multi-fuel (working both on pellets, briquettes from wood raw materials, agricultural raw materials, and wood chips, wood, coal - brown, anthracite, coal grades D and G), coal-dust injection units).
The easiest to maintain and most technologically advanced are natural gas heat generators. They can be fully automated, do not require constant monitoring. The only drawback is the cost of natural gas in Ukraine. The cost of drying is 1.5-3 times higher than when working on solid fuels or liquid (synthetic furnace fuels, products of tire pyrolysis, oils). The most significant savings can be achieved by using solid fuel heat generators. Among them, the best price / cost ratio * manufacturability has a pulverized coal heat generator. And the most economical will be a heat generator working on briquettes from sunflower husk and also on brown coal (pieces 20-100 mm).

However, they have significant disadvantages. So, for example, all solid fuel heat generators require a stoker for timely fuel supply and ash removal.When using a heat generator on wood, it is necessary to constantly monitor the moisture of the incoming firewood, since otherwise it will be impossible to achieve the necessary heat output for the drying process. A permanent warehouse for firewood with a weekly supply is also needed if you do not have a number of permanent sources of firewood and a firewood preparation area (unloading, sawing, sorting). For example, for a heat generator with a capacity of 1-1.5 MW, the required amount of firewood is 25-37 cubic meters. per day, which is equivalent to 1 truck. Thus, it turns out that depending on the wishes and needs of the customer, the type of heat generator used is not always obvious. Sometimes it is more expedient to put a heat generator working on diesel fuel or on natural gas and not have unnecessary trouble.
Also, along with the heat generator, for the operation of the drying drum, a smoke exhaust is necessary, which ensures the suction of the necessary air for combustion, its passage through the drying drum, cyclone and the evacuation of moisture evaporated from the ores. For each capacity in tons per hour, taking into account humidity at the inlet and outlet of the dryer drum, the properties of beet pulp, porosity, etc., a smoke exhauster with the necessary parameters is specially calculated, designed and manufactured.
The third necessary element for the proper conduct of the drying process of beet pulp is the presence of dust precipitating cyclone. Sugar beet pulp is a low-dusting material, but nevertheless requires a system for collecting small particles. The parameters of the cyclone depend on the performance of the dryer drum, the amount of moisture removed from the material, such as a heat generator. Therefore, in each case, depending on the configuration, we select cyclones individually.
