Chicken litter can be of two types - “litter” (chicken litter mixed with litter for chickens (sawdust, straw)) and litterless. And they are dried in completely different ways.
Litter litter, as a rule, dries much easier than litterless litter. Due to the fact that chicken droppings are removed together with the litter, its moisture content is much lower than that of the litterless one and ranges from 45 to 60% humidity. This litter is most conveniently dried in a classic tumble dryer.
Litterless chicken droppings have a significantly higher humidity - from 60% to 80% humidity, depending on the method of its removal and the content of chickens. This litter is very difficult to dry. He sticks to literally everything - rubber, wood, concrete, asphalt, metal, smeared like paste. In this case, it must either be squeezed out on the press screw machines or allowed to drain moisture. And only then dry. Alternatively, it can be granulated wet and then granules can be dried on a conveyor belt dryer
For a “laying” chicken manure, a drying drum of a classic, convective type is best suited. Slightly worse - belt conveyor drying units. And for litterless chicken droppings, a belt dryer or tumble dryer is suitable. For more information on belt and conveyor dryers, see the relevant sections.
The drum dryer for chicken droppings is a classic convection-type drying unit. Please do not confuse it with an AVM that is categorically not suitable for drying chicken manure (since it is less economical (more energy intensive) than convection-type drying units and has problems with product sticking inside the drum). The main advantage of convection-type drying units that we produce is versatility. In a drum dryer for chicken droppings, it is possible to dry raw materials of almost any size from 0.5 mm to pieces 20-30 mm in size, and with an initial humidity of 20 to 70%. The final humidity is 8 - 15% (the desired percentage of humidity is set at the request of the customer). You must also understand that the larger the pieces of litter, the worse their drying will be. All other things being equal - the drum of the same size, the power of the heat generator, the drying temperature, on large pieces of litter - the productivity will be 10-25% lower than on small ones.Our drying drums for drying chicken droppings are mainly aggregated with solid fuel heat generators (wood fire chambers, coal fire chambers, woodchip fire chambers). It is also possible to use heat generators on gas or liquid fuel at the request of the customer.

The most easy to maintain and economical are heat generators operating on wood / coarsely crushed chips. They are not subject to automation, and require constant monitoring - the presence of a stoker is mandatory. On such heat generators, the lowest cost of drying is obtained — and this is the main advantage of a wood-based heat generator. If you are a supporter of full automation of production, then a heat generator on finely chopped wood chips (10-20-30mm, not more) is more suitable for you. True automation of the process does not completely remove people from the fuel supply process. All the same, an apparatchik is required who will monitor the operation of the fuel supply systems and remove ash. But at the same time, automatic fuel supply is very expensive for many customers. When using a heat generator on wood or a heat generator on wood chips, it is necessary to constantly control the humidity of the incoming firewood, wood chips, since otherwise it will be impossible to achieve the necessary heat output for the drying process. A permanent large warehouse for firewood and a site for the preparation of firewood (unloading, sawing, sorting) are also needed. For example, for a heat generator with a capacity of 1-1.5 MW, the required amount of firewood is 25-38 cubic meters. per day, which is equivalent to 1 truck. Thus, it turns out that depending on the wishes and needs of the customer, the type of heat generator used is not always obvious.
Contrary to established prejudices, rumors, the words of pseudo-experts, it is drying in a classic drying drum for 1 pass with a decrease in moisture, for example, from 50-60 to 8-10%, which is the most economical. Compared to aerodynamic dryers of both drum type (AVM-0.65, AVM-1.5) and tubular (Chinese coils), a standard drum consumes significantly less energy per 1 ton of dry product than the others. Estimated energy savings compared to other types of drying units common in Ukraine will be 60-70 UAH per 1 ton of dry raw materials.

In addition to the heat generator, for the operation of the drying drum, a smoke exhaust is required, which ensures the suction of the necessary combustion air, its passage through the drying drum, cyclone and the evacuation of evaporated moisture. For each capacity in tons per hour, taking into account the moisture content of the material at the inlet and outlet of the drying drum, a smoke exhauster with the necessary parameters is specially calculated, designed and produced.The third necessary element for the proper conduct of the drying process of materials is the presence of a dust precipitating cyclone. The parameters of the cyclone depend on the performance of the dryer drum, the amount of moisture removed from the material, such as a heat generator. Therefore, in each case, depending on the configuration, we select cyclones individually.
